VPNTruth is an independent review site covering VPNs and privacy tools, maintained by a small editorial team. We do not operate a testing lab. What we do is read the independent testing that specialist labs publish, check it against what providers claim about themselves, and set out what the evidence actually supports — with the source and date attached to every figure, so you can go and check it.

I run VPNTruth, and I should be upfront about what that means: the site is funded by affiliate commissions, so I earn money when someone buys a product through a link here. That is the business model, and it is the reason to be sceptical of anything I write. What I actually do is read what vendors publish about themselves and check whether it holds up — whether an advertised security audit covers the product being sold, whether a feature described as free is actually free, whether a performance figure has a source and a date behind it. I do not run a testing lab and I do not publish numbers I did not measure. When I get something wrong, I correct it on the page rather than quietly.

VPNTruth is funded entirely by affiliate commissions. If you buy a subscription after clicking a link on this site, the provider pays us a percentage of that sale. You pay exactly the same price either way — there is no markup, and we do not run ads, sponsored posts, or paid placements.
The commission rate a provider offers plays no part in how we rank or score them. We decide what to recommend from the independent evidence first, and only then attach whatever affiliate link exists. Where a provider we rate well has no affiliate programme, we still recommend them and simply link to them normally.
We are an editorial team, not a testing lab, and we do not publish performance numbers we did not measure. Speed and security figures on this site come from named independent sources — CyberInsider and West Coast Labs among them — and every figure carries its source, test date and methodology so you can check it yourself.
We do not publish star ratings aggregated from readers we never surveyed, we do not quote prices that go stale within a week, and we do not invent benchmark figures. Where a number appears on this site, it came from a source we name. Where we give an opinion instead — ease of use, how a feature set fits a use case — we label it as our assessment rather than dressing it up as a measurement.
VPN products change constantly, and some of what is written here will eventually be out of date or simply wrong. When we find an error we fix it in place and move the "last updated" date on that page. If a correction changes a recommendation rather than a detail, we say so on the page rather than quietly editing it. This site previously carried speed figures presented as our own measurements; those were not measured by us, and they have been removed and replaced with cited third-party data.
We are not owned by, employed by, or operated on behalf of any VPN provider. Where we hold an affiliate relationship with a company mentioned in a comparison, that relationship is disclosed on the page itself.
